Creative stories Celebrating a decade of Aimee’s Friday Art Group North Wales art group celebrates 10-year anniversary On 17 January 2025, Aimee’s Friday Art Group celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Prestatyn and Meliden’s Mayor and Deputy Mayor came to support and celebrate this milestone with group members, alongside some of the town councillors, the previous Mayor, local artists, friends and family. The group celebrated by sharing heart-warming stories, plenty of laughs and awards handed to members by Prestatyn and Meliden’s Mayor. Founder Aimee Colville said: “I wanted to start an art group running on Fridays to get people together, create art and socialise. After a meeting with Steve and Pete, part of Artisans Collective, we quickly embraced a shared vision. “On 16 January 2015, the first ever Aimee’s Friday Art Group was held in the Old Library Building in Prestatyn, home of the Artisans Collective. Now we are celebrating our 10th year! I feel incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the years and how the group has grown into what it has become today. I’m forever grateful for all the help and support myself and the group has received over this past decade. And can’t wait to see what else we can do, looking forward to new collaborations, exhibitions and so much more!” From sessions at the Old library to the current meet-ups in Kings Community Hall Prestatyn, the group has had a few venue changes over the years, including online sessions during Covid lockdowns and restrictions. The group's aim is to bring people together, share ideas, techniques, socialise, make arts and crafts, have fun and enhance people’s lives through art for health and wellbeing. Members’ ages range from 21-91, and the group has 45 active members, with between 17 and 25 attending weekly. Approximately one third of the members have been socially prescribed by their GP, Occupational Therapist, or other agencies including the British Red Cross. The group is open to anyone regardless of artistic ability or experience, and Aimee works hard to maintain a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, ensuring members are comfortable and have fun. Many of the participants have found more formal art sessions elsewhere to be uninviting or costly, and have commented that they feel freer to express themselves here than elsewhere.
