What are QR codes?

QR codes are like digital barcodes. They are square-shaped patterns you see on posters, menus, and even some products. When you scan a QR code with your smartphone camera, it instantly takes you to a website, video, or other online content.

How can my creative group use QR codes?

  • Share contact information: Create a QR code that links to your group's email address, website or Facebook page.

  • Promote events: Use a QR code that leads to event details, ticket sales, or a map to your venue.

  • Showcase your talent: Link to videos of past performances, photos from rehearsals or exhibitions, or audio recordings of your choir.

  • Spread the word: Add a QR code to your flyers and posters to make it easy for people to join your group.

  • Collect donations: Create a QR code that links to a donation page to support your group's activities.

How to generate QR codes:

  • Use a free online generator: Many websites offer free QR code generators. Simply enter the URL (web address) you want the code to link to, and download the image.

  • QR code apps: There are also mobile apps available that allow you to easily create and share QR codes.

  • Canva: Canva is an online graphic design tool. There are free and paid versions. The software contains a QR code generator, which allows you to add a QR code directly into your designs, e.g. flyers or postcards.

  • Google Chrome: Google Chrome is a web browser. When using Chrome, go to the webpage you want to create a QR code for, right-click anywhere on the page and select 'Create QR code for this page'.

Tips for using QR codes:

  • Keep it simple: Make sure your QR codes are large and easy to scan.

  • Place them strategically: Display your QR codes in high-traffic areas, such as on posters in community centres or performance venues.

  • Track your results: Monitor how many people are scanning your QR codes to see what's working and what needs improvement. Has your use of the QR code led to more people visiting your website, or booking to see a performance? Try sharing it in different places to see what works best.
